MACOMB COUNTY: Michigan State University Extension To Offer Master Composting Course

Macomb County issued the following announcement on Sept. 10.

Composting is a natural way to improve your lawn and garden while disposing of yard waste in a way that saves time, money and energy. Interested individuals can learn more about this process through MSU Extension’s six-week Master Composter Course, which will be held on Thursdays, October 3 through November 14 (no class October 31) from 6:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. Classes will take place at the VerKuilen Building, 21885 Dunham Road, Clinton Township.

The course fee is $50, which includes 15 hours of instruction by MSU staff and local compost professionals and the Master Composter resource notebook. Fifteen hours of volunteer service are required to receive certification as a Master Composter.

The Master Composter course covers:

  • Bin and site selection
  • Composting basics
  • Composting systems
  • Equipment
  • Michigan legislation and local ordinances
  • Volunteer opportunities
  • Worm composting
  • Yard waste reduction
