The city Port Huron recently received a $100,000 grant from the Michigan Economic Development Commission to expand the city's Industrial Park.
According to a news release from the St. Clair County Economic Development Alliance (EDA), which helped prepare the Site Readiness Grant application, the MEDC award will be matched up to $100,000 by the city of Port Huron.
“Clearing, preparation and environmental testing of the land will increase the confidence of prospective investors and enhance site readiness,” Port Huron Mayor Pauline Repp said in a news release. “We’ve run out of available buildings in the Industrial Park with near full occupancy. This will help us prepare for anticipated growth and compete for potential new projects that often come with rapid construction deadlines.”
City Manager James Freed told the Times Herald that several companies have already expressed interest. The grant money will help prepare as many as 25 vacant acres for new development.
“The EDA worked closely with the city of Port Huron on the grant application and is very pleased Port Huron will be receiving the maximum grant award allowed by the Site Readiness Program,” Dan Casey, CEO of the EDA of St. Clair County, said in the news release. “We will continue to work with the city of Port Huron on the next steps to prepare these parcels to compete for business attraction projects."
