Austin Catholic High School issued the following announcement on Jan. 20.
Austin Catholic High School will be participating again this year in the 5th Annual Champions of Charity clothing/shoe drive sponsored by the Catholic League and the Society of St. Vincent de Paul Detroit.
A portable storage unit will be dropped off in the parking lot of Austin the week of September 30th. The storage bin will be here for approximately 1 week. Last year all the schools in the Catholic league collected over 30,000 lbs. of clothing and shoes to help those in need. The winning schools receives a trophy presented during the CHSL Prep Bowl at Ford Field!

We know that our awesome commUNITY can come together and accomplish this task!
Although small, we are mighty! Last year we collected just under 3,500lbs of clothing and shoes, which averaged out to 43lbs. per student. The next closest school only collected 27lbs. per student. We approached the Catholic League with a more equitable solution in order to level the playing field for all participants, regardless of size. The Catholic League has accepted our proposal to determine the winner by lbs. per student as opposed to total lbs. this year!
If you have been putting off cleaning out your closet or donating old clothes and shoes, please consider bringing them to Austin to help in our efforts. Please get the word out to family, friends, neighbors, parishioners, etc. If you would like a flyer to post in your place of work, local business, etc. please let us know ASAP and we will get one to you.

Please get the word out to family, friends, neighbors, parishioners, etc. This is truly for an excellent cause, and what wonderful publicity for Austin it would be to hoist a trophy on the 50 yard line at Ford Field in front of all of the much larger schools! Once again this year we will have a friendly competition between Houses to see who can donate the most bags of clothing/shoes. The winning house will receive a free dress down day and lunch cooked by the world-renowned grill master, Mr. Baker!
