MACOMB COUNTY: Animal Control Seeking Donations At “Fill The Trailer” Events

Macomb County issued the following announcement on Sep. 23.

Macomb County Animal Control will host a Fill the Trailer donation event from October 4 through October 6 at Pet Supplies Plus in Clinton Township (42241 Garfield). The event aims to help senior citizens who struggle to care for their dogs and cats.

“Our senior population relies on their animals for love and companionship,” said Macomb County Animal Control Chief Jeff Randazzo. “But we know there are some individuals with financial challenges who struggle to care for their pets. Through the Fill the Trailer event, we hope to ease some of that burden, as we will be able to supply individuals in need with essential items like food, treats and litter.”

During the 2018 Fill the Trailer event, Macomb County Animal Control received 17,700 pounds of donations – well beyond their 14,000 pound goal. This year, organizers hope to collect even more, with a goal of 18,000 pounds of dog and cat food, treats and cat litter. All donated items will be distributed to seniors in low-income subsidized housing that receive Meals on Wheels through the Macomb Food Program.

Animal Control staff and volunteers will accept donations at the trailer on Friday, October 4 from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., Saturday, October 5 from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Sunday, October 6 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Individuals that drop off supplies will be entered into a raffle for prizes and gift cards.
