MACOMB COUNTY: Announces Urgent Need For Meals On Wheels Volunteers

Drive

Macomb County issued the following announcement on Dec. 13.

Macomb Community Action’s Office of Senior Services is in urgent need of volunteer drivers for their Meals on Wheels Program. Volunteers are needed to help address the growing number of home-bound seniors needing a healthy meal in Macomb County.

“Macomb County has the largest Meals on Wheels program in the state,” said Sheila Cote, director of Senior Services for Macomb Community Action. “With our senior population rapidly growing, we need an army of 1,200 volunteers to deliver meals five days a week.”

Meals are typically delivered between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m., Monday through Friday. Volunteers are required to be at least 18-years-old or accompanied by a parent or authorized adult, pass a background check, and have a valid driver’s license and automobile insurance. Volunteers must use their personal vehicle for delivery - mileage reimbursement is offered.

To volunteer, contact Macomb Community Action’s Office of Senior Services at (586) 469-5228 or fill out the registration form online at mca.macombgov.org.

Meals on Wheels is a national program designed for older adults who are home-bound and unable to prepare meals for themselves. Volunteers that deliver for Meals on Wheels help give seniors a nutritious meal and also provide a welfare check to ensure they are safe.
