According to AP News, a local business that makes car parts plans to close its factory in Capac as early as next year. The company announced the closure amid promises to spend $22 million building a new plant that the company claimed would add 260 jobs.

According to the Port Huron Times Herald, Keihin North America made the announcement, which shocked investors, in a recent news release. A company spokesman said it hasn't been able to implement the new business as quickly as predicted. However, the company didn't give any other recourse but to shut down Keihin Michigan Manufacturing.

Keihin North America was Founded in 2007. Its facility manufactures car air conditioning systems and produces critical engine components. The company's main headquarters is located in Tokyo. However, its American office is based in Anderson, Indiana.

Economic Development Alliance of St. Clair County Director Dan Casey said how "unfortunate" it is to lose the company.

“It’s always unfortunate when a plant or facility closes,” Casey said. Casey's agency is currently assisting the Keihin North America employees in finding new jobs by using job fairs. “It’s a highly marketable property,” he added, according to the Times Herald.
