Macomb County issued the following announcement on March 11
More than 200 people participated in the 30th annual Macomb Community Action Walk for Warmth on Saturday, February, 29. The event, which was held indoors at Macomb Mall, raised funds to help low-income individuals pay for heating bills, furnace repairs, furnace replacements and other heat-related emergencies.
"At this anniversary event, we reflected on how proud we are of Macomb residents who have come out to the Walk for Warmth to support their neighbors in need for 30 years,” said Ernest Cawvey, director of Macomb Community Action. “Year after year, Macomb residents show up and demonstrate that Macomb County is a community that cares for those in need, and this event makes a real difference in people's lives every year. We couldn't do the good work that we do at Macomb Community Action without all of this support from Macomb residents and our partners."
This year’s Walk for Warmth raised more than $18,000 with the support of several sponsors, including platinum sponsor Genisys Credit Union, Macomb Mall, Consumers Energy, Semco, Shepherd’s Gate Church, Air Conditioning Engineers, Lakestone Bank & Trust, Macomb St. Clair Workforce Development Board, Roy O’Brien Ford and San Francesco Church.
Since it began, the event has raised over $768,000 to help ensure that local families can stay warm in their homes throughout the winter. In 2019 alone, the event helped support 37 families and 72 individuals, including:
- Single parent families (22 percent)
- Families at 100 percent of the poverty level (54 percent)
- Children (26 percent)
- Elderly individuals (28 percent)
- Disabled individuals (26 percent)
