Macomb County issued the following announcement on May 13.

Macomb Community Action (MCA) is the recipient of four major donations by local companies. The donations will be used by the county agency to support emergency food pantries and direct assistance to families in need. The grants are:

  • $10,000 from AT&T to help support vulnerable residents during the Coronavirus crisis.
  • $19,255 from the DTE Foundation and Michigan Community Action, via their “Greatest Needs Fundraiser.” The grant matched individual donations during the fundraiser which had been made to MCA.
  • $50,000 from the Consumers Energy Foundation via the state’s Bureau for Community Action and Economic Opportunity. This funding will be used to support our food pantry programs across the county.
  • $20,000 from Fiat Chrysler, to further support the Macomb Food Bank program and local food pantries.
“Each of these organizations are well known to Macomb County residents not only for the business services they provide, but because of their well-earned reputation of being good corporate citizens,” said Macomb County Executive Mark A. Hackel. “These donations will be put to immediate use helping those impacted by the Covid-19 pandemic.”

MCA is an umbrella organization that houses numerous community service programs, ranging from Head Start for pre-school children to Meals on Wheels for seniors. During the pandemic, the organization has continued to operate without pause, ensuring vulnerable populations are cared for. From March 9 through May 7, MCA has overseen the delivery of more than 75,000 pre-packaged meals and has distributed more than 520,000 pounds of food to more than 60 food pantries across Macomb County.

“We are deeply grateful for the trust that these great companies and organizations have placed with us via these donations. Our task is made easier by having such wonderful community partners,” said Ernest Cawvey, director of Macomb Community Action.

For information on the services available to the community via MCA call the agency’s service hotline, (586) 569-6999, or visit macombgov.org
