City of St. Clair Shores issued the following announcement on May 22.
The City of St. Clair Shores experienced a dangerous combination of quickly rising lake levels, easterly winds, and onshore waves that resulted in flooding all along the Lake St. Clair shoreline. The DPW responded by building sandbag levees to protect our stormwater pump stations from being overwhelmed by the floodwaters. Additionally, Jefferson Avenue ended up flooded by lake waters breaching residential properties and draining to the street. Residents are reminded that they must protect their property, neighboring properties as well as the City infrastructure by constructing their own flood protection such as sandbag levees. Empty sandbags are available at the DPW. Sandbag filling stations are located in the parking lots of the Civic Ice Arena, the Court Building, and Veterans Memorial Park. If a resident needs a large amount of sand, they can call the DPW to have a delivery of sand made to their driveway.
