The St. Clair County Community Foundation is offering expanded assistance to local residents battling cancer through the Betty Kearns Cancer Fund, thanks to a recent $25,000 contribution to the fund.
The fund, which was established to honor Betty Kearns, who died from breast cancer in 2006, helps cancer patients to meet the non-medical costs that can drag down cancer patients and their families financially, according to the Community Foundation of St. Clair County.
Costs that may be eligible to be covered by the fund include gas for driving to medical appointments, utility bills and even rent or mortgage payments. Each patient may receive up to $1,000 in assistance from the fund, with the potential for additional assistance if approved by the fund committee.
Additional information on supporting the fund or applying for support from the fund can be found on the Community Foundation website or by emailing bettykearnscancerfund@gmail.com.
