Macomb County issued the following announcement on Dec. 5.
Macomb County today announced an extension of the deadline to apply for a free Shipt membership through its Office of Senior Services. Residents over the age of 60 can now apply for the program, which was funded with federal CARES Act dollars, through December 15, 2020.
“We would like to extend the offer to ensure we reach as many seniors in Macomb County as possible,” said Sheila Coté, director, Macomb County Office of Senior Services. “This is a great opportunity to reduce exposure risk of our seniors by having groceries and other essential items delivered to their home.”
Macomb County’s program was the first-of-its-kind between a senior services agency and Shipt, an app (or website) that provides grocery delivery from local stores. A member orders groceries from a phone or computer and a shopper will pick up items and deliver them to the door. If a senior does not have access to a computer, friends or family members can assist in enrolling, ordering and scheduling delivery dates/times.
To enroll, simply go to mca.macombgov.org and click the Shipt link. An online form is available and the membership code and activation information will be mailed to your home. You may also contact the Office of Senior Services at 586 469 5228 Monday-Friday between hours of Noon and 4:00 p.m.
