St. Clair County Health Department Encourages Everyone to be a “Flu Fighter” and Get Vaccinated

Flu season is starting soon and it doesn’t matter where an individual receives a flu vaccine, what matters is getting it done. Vaccination options are plentiful in St. Clair County. Stay protected, get vaccinated. Dr. Najibah Rehman, Medical Director for the St. Clair County Health Department (SCCHD) stated, “Last flu season only a 1/4 of eligible St. Clair County residents received their flu vaccine so we are encouraging everyone to consider getting vaccinated, especially as we shift to spending more time indoors during the colder months. The vaccine is recommended for anyone 6 months and older, including the elderly, young, pregnant and immune compromised. Vaccine locations include local health departments, pharmacies and many healthcare provider offices. Additionally, the flu shot can be given at the same time as other vaccines—including the new bivalent COVID-19 booster vaccine that targets both the original and Omicron variant which is also important to consider.”

The St. Clair County Health Department (SCCHD) and Teen Health locations are offering a variety of flu vaccinations (while supplies last) including:

 Quadrivalent enhanced (age 65 and older)

 Standard-dose Quadrivalent (age 6 months and older)

 Quadrivalent egg-free (age 6 months and older)

 Flu Mist Quadrivalent (ages 2 through 49 years old)

The health department is located at 3415 28th Street, in Port Huron. Walk-in hours are Mondays, 10:00am - 6:00pm and Wednesdays, 8:00am – 4:00pm; other days by appointment, call (810) 987-5300. Appointments required at Teen Health locations (ages 10-21), call (810) 987-1311. Most insurance is accepted and consider flu vaccination a covered benefit. For those uninsured or underinsured, cost will vary based on income eligibility and family size.
