Hearing “peenting” in parks or yards in the evenings? It might be a Woodcock! Woodcock are migratory birds with distinctive sounds and elaborate spring mating behavior. They prefer young forests and open areas and their numbers have been declining in recent years. The Michigan DNR and partners are working to reverse that trend by providing improved habitat. Learn more about this unique bird at a Woodcock Walk at Port Huron State Game Area on Wednesday, April 5 starting at 5:30 p.m. For more information, contact Kaitlyn Barnes at barnesk10@michigan.gov
