Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS) Director Robert Gordon has placed the blame with state residents for the continuing spread of COVID-19, and he has extended the current epidemic order through Friday, Jan. 15, which closes bars and restaurants to in-person service.
“Because COVID is everywhere in our state and because sadly... we still have a lot of folks who are... we’re not doing all the things we need to do.... If we are all doing those things, we will get the virus under control,” Gordon said on the radio program "Michigan's Big Show," Michigan Capitol Confidential reported. “But we’re doing these things partly, not all the way, so the virus continues to spread.”
Gordon isn't the only one blaming residents for the proliferation of the virus in Michigan.
Other state officials, including Gov. Gretchen Whitmer, have been repeatedly blaming residents for the spread of the coronavirus without providing evidence to support their claims. They believe that some residents' refusal to wear masks in public, social-distance and respect indoor gathering limits has worsened the community spread of COVID-19.
